Project Description

Originally constructed in the 30’s this bridge still serves our infrastructure today.

ODOT contracted with MJ Hughes to add seismic upgrades and rail upgrades and to increase the elevation of the cast-in-place concrete bracing between the arches. The existing bracing was too low along the shoulders of the roads, and overheight trucks were hitting the bracing. Challenges included ensuring the stability of the structure with portions of the existing bracing removed and working with limited vertical clearances between our falsework and the live traffic below. Because HWY 101 is only two lanes with no shoulders here, all work had to be performed near the traffic.  Additional challenges overcome were working on the Oregon coast in the winter with frequent storms, high winds, and flooding.
